a new petition. cbs reporter elizabeth wenger is live at city hall to explain how this may be planting the seed for a future recall against sheriff ross mirkarimi. >> reporter: good afternoon. that's right. there's actually a meeting being held now in the mayor's office at city hall. it's about the citywide effort to stop domestic violence called peace at home. it's about putting up billboards, bus ads, talking about putting a stop to this. folks like the mayor and the district attorney, who are actually heading this meeting, have been talking a lot recently about curbing ross mirkarimi's power on different domestic violence issues and some people have actually gone even further than that. check out this website. this is rossresign.org an online petition calling on the san francisco sheriff to step down and avoid a costly recall effort. they want 50,000 signatures. right before this meeting started, we talked to the president of the board of supervisors and the district attorney. they say this is about turning around a bad trend, not the embattled sheriff. we specifically asked george
should not post online, a lot of stuff. this is one of them. cbs 5 reporter elizabeth wenger is in san francisco with the story of a video that has a police sergeant in hot water. >> reporter: it should be interesting to see what happens next. yeah, the biggest question is why? it's pretty astonishing video. it was taken in broad daylight so you think that's the time when typically a lot of cars, a lot of traffic here at the broadway tunnel. and so the driver started here ee here at larkin and gunned it through the tunnel to chinatown. here's the video. [ engine revs ] >> reporter: it was posted on sergeant carl t's facebook page and was first obtained by sfist. it was seen in the broadway tunnel in a matter of seconds. there is no way to identify who was driving but in the comments section of the facebook page, he even bragged, we were all drunk. folks we showed the video to were shocked but others say since there were no other drivers around, no harm no foul. >> is he going to lose his dog in that's very reckless. >> took advantage because he was a cop. >> probably want to do it diff
, causing the collapse. nobody was hurt, luckily. let's check with elizabeth wenger with the first look at the weather forecast. >> the worst of it is happening right now, continuing through the morning. we are getting word of flooding reports in the great highway. portions of san francisco shut down. delays at sfo about an hour-and- a-half right now. the high def doppler has been active overnight and continues with the yellow and green. the green is the lighter rain, the yellow is the heavier cell. you can see the yellow around san francisco lighting things up. it is now move into the south bay, as well. light rain over san jose and a heavier rain in saratoga. this is what it looks like outside. this is the weather forecast. you can barely see the bay bridge. temperatures in the 50s. we will warm up a bit in the afternoon. when will it end i will let you know coming up in just a little bit. >> people watching streams and creeks for potential flooding. merchants have put in place sandbag, many of which are still out from the storm system last month. crews have cleared out debris from
-speed joyride through a tunnel in town. elizabeth wenger reports. >> reporter: the video is astonishing. he is changing his story but the first question is why. why would a san francisco cop post this on facebook to begin with? the video shows a driver at larkin and zooming top speeds. check this out. that clip was posted on sergeant carl t's facebook page in september. it appears to show him driving 100 miles per hour in the lamborghini through the broadway tunnel in seconds. there is no way to actually identify who is driving. in the comments section of his facebook page he bragged, we were all drunk. some people were surprised who saw the videos. others say since there were no other cars around, no harm, no foul. >> definitely safe. >> is he going to lose his job? that's reckless. >> he only took advantage of it because he is a cop. >> he probably would want to do it differently or not at all. >> reporter: the officer is changing his story. he told a weekly newspaper he wasn't driving and they were never going 100 miles per hour. he south dade the comment about being drunk was a joke. h
this morning." >> good morning. it's monday, december 17. i'm brian hackney. >>i'm elizabeth wenger. frank and michelle are off. >>> we have our hi-def doppler very busy rain all over the bay area. looks like it's going to be a wet week. >> no morning should begin without your hi-def doppler. let's get a look at it with lawrence karnow. >> what would you do without your hi-def doppler? >> i wouldn't want to know. >> it was one of the greatest advances in the bay area when we finally got it here. looks like today we are starting to show more moisture outside just some scattered showers about the bay area. and you can see that rolling on n a lot of low-level moisture. we are seeing some mis, drizzle and light showers at this hour but we do have some pockets that you want to be aware of. you can see some of that moisture near livermore in near the 580. watch out in that direction. continuing to see some of that rain all around the bay area. you will find it inside the bay and oakland and berkeley. we have more storms coming our way. we'll talk about that coming up. >> thank you. >>> in newtow
'm elizabeth wenger, michelle is off today. time no is 5:29. -- now is 5:29. we'll have the latest on that investigation into the shooting in new york city coming up but first a check of the weather. we know people may be out and about visiting people today. >> a little bit of rain huh lawrence? >> watch the possibility for flooding especially this afternoon. the storm will again pack a punch not the biggest one we've seen but nonetheless the ground is already saturated. you can see it diving into the bay area right now. in fact the hi-def doppler radar is picking up showers in the north bay. in the afternoon that's when the storm system races through the bay area. the temperatures a little cool right now. 30s and some 40s around the bay area. this afternoon could be very stormy. even the possibility of isolated thunderstorms, highs only in the low to about mid 50s. more showers for tomorrow as well and hopefully we'll catch a break in the storeny weather. back to you. >>> thank you lawrence. and just a quick update on the traffic information. still all lanes blocked northbound 880
police sergeant is under investigation over over a video on facebook. in elizabeth wenger is in san francisco with the video that was recorded. >>> this video all over the net. it makes you think why would a san francisco cop ever do this to begin with? we should know he is changing his story now but that video essentially shows the driver starting here at larkin and broadway going through, gunning it through the broadway tunnel, all the way towards chinatown. let's check out that video now. working woman in show business, ladies and gentlemen, elizabeth wenger. >> thank you, thank you. we have dramatic music booming through the studio, as well! the drama. it's because of all these colder temperatures out the door. actually a blanket of clouds across the bay area is slowly clearing and that's why temperatures are falling, as well. look at napa, fairfield, getting pretty close to that freezing mark. 33 right now in fairfield. 34 in napa. a little more mild in oakland and fremont. but still cold in the low 40s. so what's going on? we have this area of low pressure. it's bringing a colder air mass across the bay area. it's even colder by overnight tonight. we're looking at freeze warnings already posted for parts of the north bay. we're expecting to see some 20- degree readings by this time tomorrow morning. for right now we're for exampling on these cooler temperatures. this afternoon breezy. so it may feel colder than it is. going to struggle to get out of the low to mid-50s. temperatures are going to be anywhere from 4 to 7 degrees below what we saw yesterday. and then, the
mallicoat. >> that's right and i'm elizabeth wenger, michelle has the morning off. >> and we begin somewhere some breaking news in the south bay. firefighters are at the scene of a three alarm fire in campbell. this is at the engineering building intersection of bell and division. no word on what may have started the fire. we will have the very latest information as soon as we get it but some live pictures there you can see a number of firefighters on the scene. and as we mentioned more coming up a little bit later. >>> okay. and we're going to i think start off with some traffic information of course we want toilet you know that the nimitz freeway has reopened northbound 880 right there approaching fruitvale avenue. they just reopened it a little bit before 6:30. so better news now for the nimitz freeway if you are traveling. visiting friends or program and frying to use the -- family and trying to use the nimitz. all lanes open the traffic alert is now officially canceled. still here, delays eastbound 08 # approach -- 580 approaching mcarthur boulevard. and your bridges so far moving fine
, elizabeth wenger reports. >> right there by broad and plymouth you see the fire trucks. they are blocking the tracks on the m oceanview line so they are having to use bus shuttles instead. it's affecting outbound service. the bus shuttles are in place for people heading from that neighborhood out towards west portal. all other muni lines on time and bart no longer experiencing residual delays. they got the fremont line on track. ace and ferries good to go. word of an overturn on westbound 580 on the approach to 980. the overturned car on its roof blocking at least one lane. so we'll continue to keep you updated there. in the meantime, back outside here's a live look across the golden gate bridge. both directions flowing nicely this morning. they did lane changes early and so far, so good along the stretch and continues to move down on 101 and 280 along the peninsula. let's take a quick look towards the bay bridge toll plaza. the metering lights have been on since just after 6:00. and so now we have delays quickly stacking up launch to the macarthur maze. here's about the foot of the maze
:56. i'm elizabeth wenger, investigators are looking into a cause this morning of a three alarm fire. it happened in campbell. it started just before 5:00 this morning at the engineering building on dell avenue. at division street. fire says it started at the back of the building. >>> well, there's some uncertainty in east palo alto this christmas day with crews scrambling to repair a rev lee ahead of the next storm. sunday heavy rain caused the creek to spill over the levee. crews are sandbagging and making emergency repairs as even more rain is expected later this afternoon. with more on your weather forecast, plus a check of traffic coming up in just a moment.
